Camp NaNo, Day 6
Posted: June 6, 2012 Filed under: Hunt | Tags: camp, letter, Nanowrimo, writing 4 CommentsDear Mom and Dad,
Why on earth did I ask to come here? All they ever do is write. Everywhere I turn people are talking about word counts and plot bunnies, I can’t escape.
Yesterday I tried to drown myself in the lake, just to get away from it, and a counselor grabbed me by the hair, and pulled me out. “You’ll never make your word count that way.” She chided before leaving me laying on the shore of the lake as she rushed off to work on her own novel.
Instead of crafts, sports and games we have word wars and plotting sessions. Tell me why did I think this would be fun?
Next year, if I ask to come back, please, lock me in my room until the urge passes.
Your Daughter,
Melissa
Okay, so not really, I’m actually really enjoying Camp Nano and I’m looking forward to doing it again. Possibly in August, and definitely in November.
As for how things are going? Great. I had no trouble reaching (and surpassing) my personal goal of 2k words today. I still know where I’m going and what comes next so tomorrow should go well too.
Dear Melissa
As a NaNoWriMo widow last November I have no sympathy. You all asked to go on this camp and promised that you would enjoy it. You must have known about the word counts and plot developments and that there would be big kids who would brag about their NaNo achievements and show off their certificates from past years.
At least it’s raining today, so you are not tempted to sneak off and have fun swimming and climbing trees. I’m sure once the month is over your parents will rescue you and you will be allowed to play outdoors once again.
Keep up the writing
The Snail of Happiness
I’m sure my husband would agree with you, no sympathy. My letter was all tongue in cheek, I’m really having fun with Camp Nano. Making great progress… and one of my parents has no clue I’m even doing it. (The other, well he tries to be supportive, no matter what I do.)
I wish it were raining today, we’re stuck with yet another day of triple digit heat. I need a trip somewhere cool!
My partner really enjoyed last November… and in fact it has resulted in him producing his first published volume… he’s busy with the next one now although isn’t registered for the camp!
Perhaps I should set up a support group for the other halves of NaNoWriMers!
Actually, Change is the result of NaNoWriMo 2010. It took a lot of adding, rewriting and editing to get it to where it is now, but I’m happy with it and I’ll have it out in paperback soon. I think it’s fitting that I’m using Camp to work on book 3 (BTW, they’re doing camp again in August if your other half is interested!)
I think a support group for NaNo widows would be great!
