Remake of 1984 film with the same name. Modernized and retold, though the same basic story of an American town being invaded by terrorists. A group of teenagers evades capture and pit themselves against the invaders while fighting for freedom.
What did I think? I really enjoyed it. The story was updated and renewed, and without the use of the same names on the main characters, it could have been a different, though similar movie. It was great.
Four howls.

An international fleet of ships is headed out to a war games competition when a group of alien ships invades, cutting the Hawaiian Islands, and a handful of ships, off from the rest of the world so they can make their attack.
What did I think: Top Gun meets Cowboys & Aliens, in the ocean. That said, I enjoyed it, it was funny and outrageous at times, but good. I’m disappointed that Taylor Kitsch didn’t get higher billing, he played a much larger roll than the three top billed, and Rihanna did a surprisingly good job as well.
3 1/2 howls.
Movie Review ~ 21 Jump Street

Two rookie cops are assigned to the Jump Street division and sent back to high school, undercover, to bring down a drug ring.
What did I think? It was funny. There was some dumb, lots of foul language and sexual innuendo, definitely not for kids, but I laughed so hard the tears ran. Bonus? Channing Tatum with no shirt.
3.5 howls.

After the shock of sudden unemployment and losing their Manhattan apartment, a couple investigates their options. On their way to Atlanta, where his brother will help them they discover a rural commune, where pretty much anything goes. Could this be the lifestyle for them?
What did I think? It was okay. There were moments that were really funny, some that were shocking (one of the commune in habitants is a nudist) and some that were just plain stupid. I didn’t totally hate it, but I wouldn’t watch it again.
Two howls.

In a dystopian world, every year the government selects one boy and one girl from each district to enter a battle to the death on live television in order to remind the people who controls them. This year Katniss volunteers to take her younger sister’s place, after Primrose name is drawn. Can she survive the deadly game?
What did I think? I read the books a couple of years ago, long enough that I had to wait for the last book to come out. They did a good job on translating the book to a movie without losing major story elements. Obviously, they had to leave things out, you can’t fit everything from such a gripping book into a two hour movie, but it was very well done.
My rating? 4 howls.
Movie Review ~ I am Number Four

Refugees from an overtaken planet hide on earth from their invaders, who now hunt them here. The refugees must be killed in numerical order, this is the story of number four. A teenager who is always moving, always hiding finds a place he feels at home. But the aliens that want him dead are not far behind.
What did I think? I enjoyed it. It was different, not a remake, not a retelling of the same old story with a slightly different angle. Pettyfer did a good job of playing a teenager who is tired of being told what to do, and rebelling in his own way. I recommend!
Movie Review ~ Act of Valor

A group of Navy SEALs goes into action to rescue a kidnapped CIA agent in a South American jungle only to discover a much more involved terrorist threat to the United States that they have to put an end to.
What did I think? It was a great movie. The SEALs in this movie are not played by actors, they are real SEALs portraying the type of thing that SEALs do every day. The story itself is fiction, but the bravery and heroism they example with it are real. Very moving.
Movie Review ~ The Eagle

A Roman soldier endeavors to regain the family honor by recovering the eagle that his father’s legion carried when they were lost in northern Briton.
What did I think? It was good. I started out watching because I was craving some eye candy, it has Channing Tatum, and it happened to be laying on my desk (thank you Netflix!) But as it played I lost track of what I was trying to do and spent more time with my eyes on the screen. I was surprised by the ending, but it was a pleasant surprise. I recommend it.
