A long spring break leads to a tired writer.Posted: April 6, 2013 Filed under: Escape, Odds and Ends, White Mountain Chanat | Tags: eegees, Escape, Melissa Stevens, new project, spring break, white mountain chanat Leave a comment
To start with, we were supposed to leave last Friday to go camping. I had been watching what the weather would be like, cool, but nice. However, I’d forgotten to check road conditions. So I spent three days working and working to get things ready to go, only to discover within an hour or two of leaving, that the roads are still snowed in and we can’t get there.
Hubster insists nowhere else will do, we can only go to this one lake. So we’ll wait. We knew when we scheduled this early that there was a chance we wouldn’t be able to make it. We planned for the possibility of delaying. So Hubster canceled his vacation and the kids stayed home with me for spring break (which was how we’d planned to do it if we couldn’t go this early.)
On the upside, this meant I got to finish the revisions on my latest project (more on that soon) in the comfort of my home, with conveniences like electricity! On the downside..it’s hot here. Mid-90’s already, and I think one day, we actually hit 100, though, not officially.
Things went along fine, until I went to the grocery store on Wednesday. There, I discovered the card I use for all my purchases has expired without the bank sending me a new one. Talk about embarrassing. I apologized to the clerk, told her I was going to have to cancel the order, and we came home. I got a hold of the bank, there’s a new card on the way, in the mean time, I’ve pulled a different card out to get me by.
Then there was Thursday. I was doing laundry like normal, everything was fine, until I noticed water pooling in the laundry room floor. I looked up my washer model online and did everything I could find or think of to find/stop the leak… no go. I had to call a service person. They’ll be here Monday, no clue how bad the damages will be.
Today, Kidlet 1 and I made a trip to Tucson. It’s a 4 hr drive each way. We went, picked up a truck load of furniture, a party pack of Eegees and came home. It was a long day and I’m exhausted but it was a good day.
The other really great part of the week was finishing the revisions on my latest project. No, I’m not ready to tell you all about it yet, but I will say it won’t be another nearly year before you get another book from me. It’s a great feeling. It also means I can go back to work on the next White Mountain Chanat book. Yes, a sequel to Escape is in the works, and going well so far. No, I don’t have a title yet, but I’ll let you know when I know more.
Deep sigh of relief.Posted: January 3, 2013 Filed under: Escape, Hunt | Tags: beta readers, Escape, Hunt, project, sequel, series, writing Leave a comment
I just sent Hunt out to my beta readers. Honestly? It feels great. I need to set a release date and work on the cover, as well as a couple other smaller details, but Hunt is mostly done. I need to decide which of my other ongoing projects to focus on next.
I’m seriously considering going back to my NaNo book, which is a longer sequel to Escape, not in the way that Fight and Hunt are sequels to Change, but still a series. The new book focuses on Steve’s story. Considering his position in the Chanat, we get to see quite a bit of Nick and Rebecca, to follow their continuing story, but they aren’t the main focus. I’m enjoying learning more about Steve and I hope you will too.

StepsPosted: January 19, 2012 Filed under: Odds and Ends | Tags: Change, Escape, Nanowrimo, publication, steps, writing Leave a comment
I’ve gotten Escape all ready to be published, I’m just waiting for the time to be right.
I’m back to working on the sequel to Change. I already had quite a bit of it done, as I started it back in July, shortly after I finished Change, but I set it aside in October to focus on what I was going to work on in November for NaNoWriMo. I spent all of November focused on my NaNo project, and all of December recovering from November… Oh, and doing the Christmas thing with the family.
The hiatus did a couple of things, it let me and my characters rest. We were all tired from the push to finish change, and heading straight into it’s sequel. By the the first of January, when I started the final edits on Change, Nickie and Devon were coming to me in that space between awake and asleep and telling me it was time, time to continue their story. By the time I got finished with Change and Escape and could get back to the book, they had come to me several times, telling me bits and pieces of the story yet to come. Leaving me a bread trail on where to start.
Now, I’m back at it, and things are going great. I have scenes I know exactly what happens I just need to get them down, and others that I know vaguely what will happen but when I sit down to work on them they grow, expand and take on a life of their own. This is one of my favorite parts of writing. Not having to struggle with what to do next, but the characters telling me, using me as their conduit to get their story told.

Heading for publication.Posted: January 1, 2012 Filed under: Change, Escape, Fight | Tags: Change, Escape, Melissa Stevens, publication date Leave a comment
Making progress on the final edits on Change. Hoping for a Jan 30th publication date. As soon as Change is up I’ll start working on Escape‘s edits, then I’ll be back to work on Fight. I haven’t done much on Fight in nearly three months already and I’m chomping at the bit to get back to it.
Stay tuned as I get all my accounts set up. I’ll post links to them all as they are established. Watch the sidebar –> for more permanent links.
