Weekly Ask Me Anything Series: Easter Eggs

Every week I publish a post with a single Ask Me Anything question. I’ll start in the beginning with questions found on a website to ask authors, but leave comments with your own questions and I’ll get to them.

Do you hide any secrets in your books that only a few people will find?

Kind of.

There are easter eggs of several kinds in my books.

  1. Locational. If a place (town) in my books really exists, you’ll find small things that mostly people not from the area won’t know. Little side roads that lead out to little known hot tubs, small holiday festivals, etc.
  2. My books. I sometimes have ‘cameos’ from one series to another, and recently, a new series is often a spin off of another, so you’ll see at least one person in a new series was introduced in a previous one.
  3. Other authors/books. I will reference books/words/ other authors I’ve read or people I know who write. I think it’s just fun little bits.
  4. Music. Little bits of what I’m listening to often make their way into my books. Not lyrics. Never lyrics. That would be way to obvious. But references here or there. Also Most of the books under my other pen name have dedications to Brantley Gilbert. Why? Because his music speaks to me. I’m not talking about one album or a few songs, nearly everything. I often make some small comment that relates something in a specific song to some thing in the book. Besides. I think it’s funny.
